Turner steamrolls Charlton, 44-0
By Steve Carter

ASHBURN - The Turner County Rebels made a big statement Friday night at Alan Hobby Field.

Turner went to 5-0 on the year with a 44-0 victory over the Charlton County Indians. It not only gave the Rebels a win over the Indians, ranked No. 1 in this week's Class A Public School Power Rankings, the victory was the worst defeat ever against a Class A team for Charlton Head Coach Rich McWhorter. The only two losses that were bigger for McWhorter were a 48-0 loss to Camden in 2001, and a 49-0 defeat to Ware in 2013.

It was a close game in the first half as Turner carried a 14-0 lead into intermission. Lorenzo Bolden accounted for both scores on runs of five and 31 yards.

Turner led in total yardage in the quarter, 92-59, as the teams accounted for only 151 total yards.
Ontaria Wilson started a Rebel tidal wave in the third as he intercepted a Jimmy Nettles pass and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown.

Tyler Moore then threw two touchdown passes for the Rebels. One went for 20 yards to Cedrick Leggett, and the other was for Tamorrion Terry for 25 yards.

Ahead 35-0 going into the fourth, the Rebels put up nine points on a 34-yard touchdown run by Lawton Merriweather and on a safety after a Charlton punt snap caused the punter to be tackled in the endzone.

Deondre Pierce accounted for all of the extra points for Turner, as the straight ahead kicker went 6-for-6 on his point afters.

Turner ended up with 172 yards of offense, while Charlton was held to only 3 yards in the second half, giving them 62 yards on the night.

Turner will take on Lanier County at home Oct. 2. It will be the school's Pink Out night to honor breast cancer awareness.
