This week's football games in the Tiftarea

Tift County at Valdosta
Series Record: Valdosta leads 47-8
This season: After falling in the Region 1-AAAAAA opener last week, 42-14 to Lee County, the Tift County Blue Devils will be trying to even their league mark against a team they have not had much success against, the Valdosta Wildcats. Valdosta has won 48 of the 55 meetings between the two teams, and has a six-game winning streak over Tift. According to the Georgia High School Football Historians website, Valdosta has also won 10 games in a row over Tift at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. The last Devil win coming in 1993. Valdosta will also be in the hunt for its first league win, after falling 31-10 last week against Camden.

Berrien High at Early County
Series Record: Early leads 13-2
This season: Coach Ed Pilcher's Berrien High Rebels will be on the road this week, making a long trip to Blakely to face the Bobcats of Early County. Early is 1-1 on the year in Region 1-AA, with a loss to Fitzgerald, 30-0, and a win over Seminole County, 49-13. The Bobcats are 3-2-1 on the year with the tie coming in week one, 7-7 against Irwin County in a game called at the half due to lightning. After a close 28-27 loss last week to Brooks, Berrien will look to even its' league mark at 1-1. Pilcher's squad is 1-4 on the year overall, the one coming against Bleckley County, 24-19.

Toombs County at Cook High
Series Record: Tied 1-1
This season: Toombs County will come down from Vidalia Onion country to face the Cook High Hornets at Cook Memorial Stadium Friday in a Sub-Region 1-AAA battle. Cook is currently 2-1 in sub-region play after a 30-7 win over Tattnall County last week in Reidsville. The Hornets under first-year head coach Bobby Jones are 4-2 overall. Toombs will come in with a 1-4 overall record, and a 0-2 mark in sub-region play.

Brooks County at Fitzgerald High
Series Record: Fitzgerald leads 12-5
This season: In what is usually one of the most entertaining games in Class AA in the state, the Fitzgerald High Purple Hurricanes will be hosting the Brooks County Trojans in a Region 1-AA tilt Friday at Fitzgerald's Jaycee Stadium. Even though coach Jason Strickland's Hurricanes have an all-time 12-5 advantage in the series, the two teams have split the last four meetings. Fitzgerald is ranked second in most of this week's Class AA state polls with a perfect 6-0 record. After losing their first two games of the year, Brooks has rebounded to be 4-2 with four straight wins. Both teams also have perfect 2-0 marks in league play.

Worth County at Bainbridge
Series Record: Bainbridge leads 2-1
This season: Bainbridge has run roughshod over their opponents this season with a perfect 6-0 record. The Bearcats' closest game against Cairo, as Bainbridge emerged with a 21-7 win. Coach Jason Tone's Worth County Rams are 3-2 on the year. One of those three wins being a 28-15 victory over the same Syrupmakers of Cairo. But, more importantly, both teams are 1-0 in Sub-Region 1-AAAA. The Rams emerged with a 48-28 victory over the Bearcats in Sylvester last season.

For fans of Turner County and Irwin County, here is a look at this week's Class A Public School Power Rankings. Both Turner and Irwin are off this week, along with Tiftarea Academy.
