Tift County Blue Devils (3-2) at Coffee High Trojans (3-1)
Series Record: Coffee leads 15-12
The Tift County Blue Devils will attempt to bounce back this week after losing their last two games to Valdosta and Parkview. An old rival, the Coffee High Trojans, will look to extend the Tift losing ways as they host the Devils this week. After a loss to Ware County, Coffee rebounded this past week with a 49-28 win over University Christian (Fla.). University Christian committed five turnovers in the first half of that game, but only trailed 28-21 at the half. However, the Trojans pulled away in the second half to garner the win. Tift led 9-7 over Parkview at halftime this past week, but the Panthers exploded and took a 35-14 victory. According to The Tifton Gazette, Griffin Collier was 22-of-37 passing in the Parkview game for 272 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Rashod Bateman led the Tift receiving with eight catches for 120 yards, while Fred Lloyd had six catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. Tift only had 57 yards rushing in the game, and had 125 yards in penalties.


Southland Academy Raiders (4-2) at Tiftarea Academy Panthers (3-2)
Series Record: Tiftarea leads 9-2
After only garnering two victories last season, the Tiftarea Academy Panthers have already bettered their 2015 win total, thanks to a 38-17 win over the Terrell Academy Eagles last week at the Panther Pit. The Panthers will attempt to double that 2015 win total with a game this Friday at home against the Southland Academy Raiders. Ahmad Mosely, Kymele Hart, Spence Massey, Logan Carswell, Bo Cunningham, Render Robbins, McKinley Morehead, Dalton Jones and Hunter Hartsfield were among the Panthers that helped contribute to the victory.


Smiths Station (Ala.) Panthers (1-4) at Fitzgerald High Purple Hurricanes (3-0)
Series Record: First meeting
The AAAAAAA run continues for the state's top-ranked team in Class AA, as the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes play host to the Smiths Station (Ala.) Panthers this week at Jaycee Stadium. Fitzgerald has a run of three straight games against AAAAAAA opponents. The Hurricanes opened up the stretch last week with a 41-14 win over Rockdale County. Smiths Station is the 30th ranked team in Alabama's AAAAAAA classification, according to MaxPreps, and the run will end Sept. 30 on the road against Tift County. This past Thursday (Sept. 15), the Panthers played their biggest rival, Central-Phenix City (Ala.) and were defeated by a 51-14 score. Quarterback Jay Robets was 9-of-27 passing in that game for 80 yards. Central held the Panthers to only 45 yards on the ground on 19 carries. For the year, however, the Panthers are led in rushing by Joe Lewis. DJ Moffett also had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown for Smiths Station against Central. The Panthers opened the year with a 17-16 loss to a Georgia team, AAAAA Harris County, which is currently 3-1 on the year. JD King led the Hurricanes against Rockdale County. The Oklahoma State verbal commit rushed 18 times for 145 yards and two scores against Rockdale. On the year he has rushed for 420 yards on just 44 carries, and has scored eight touchdowns. He didn't play in the second half of at least one of the three Fitzgerald games.


Telfair County Trojans (1-2) at Irwin County Indians (1-3)
Series Record: Irwin leads 16-1
After a three-game losing streak to three powerhouses, Fitzgerald, Macon County and Clinch County, the Irwin County Indians are licking their wounds. This week, the Indians will look to get back on track overall and in the Region 2-A standings as the Telfair County Trojans come to town. After a 19-15 win over Savannah to begin the year, the Trojans have been beaten by Toombs County and in their region opener last week against Turner County. Irwin opened with a win over Berrien, but has run into a buzz saw with three games against teams ranked among the top three in the state in their respective classifications. The Clinch game saw Irwin jump out to a 13-0 lead, but Clinch County responded with a 39-19 victory.


Early County Bobcats (0-3-1) at Berrien High Rebels (2-2)
Series Record: Early leads 14-2
In their annual border brawl game with the Cook High Hornets, the Berrien High Rebels battled hard but were defeated 48-28. This week Berrien hopes to get its Region 1-AA schedule off on the right foot against the visiting Bobcats of Early County. Devyn Harris had 73 yards rushing on 20 carries for Berrien against Cook.He also scored a touchdown. Berrien quarterback Monteo Brooks had 17 carries for 73 yards rushing. Brooks also completed a touchdown pass to Devon Lewis.


Cook High Hornets (1-3) at Thomasville High Bulldogs (1-2)
Series Record: Thomasville leads 20-5
Two teams that garnered their first wins of the year last week will try to make it two victories in a row this week in Thomasville. The Cook High Hornets defeated bitter rival Berrien, 48-28, this past week in Adel. A big reason for that success was running back Brandon Poe. He rushed for 291 yards on 15 carries and scored four touchdowns against the Rebels of Berrien. In just four games, Poe has rushed for 823 yards on 81 carries. He has scored seven touchdowns on runs of 50 or more yards this season. Also against Berrien, Cook quarterback Tre Williams rushed for 72 yards on three carries, including a 52-yard touchdown run. Williams also threw a touchdown pass to Hornets quarterback Tre Williams had a 52-yard run, netting 72 yards on three carries. He also threw a touchdown pass to Trey Smith. Down by 11 points in the fourth quarter, Thomasville offensive lineman Khalil Frazier recovered a Bulldog fumble in the end zone for his school's winning points. The Thomasville win ended a overall seven-game losing streak for the Bulldogs, the longest in the rich history of the school's program.


Turner County Rebels (2-2) at Charlton County Indians (1-2)
Series Record: Charlton leads 7-3
The Turner County Rebels defeated the Charlton County Indians, 44-0, last year. It was the worst loss ever for Charlton Coach Rich McWhorter against a fellow Class A team. The Indians will seek revenge this week as they host Turner Coach Ben Simmons' squad in the Swamp in Folkston. Both teams are 1-0 in the Region 1-A standings. Turner defeated 28-19 last week in its' league opener, while Charlton garnered a 42-28 victory over Atkinson County.


Worth County is off this week.
